This is one of those genuinely wow moments. The lost audio recording of the famous address by Dr Martyn Lloyd-Jones which shook evangelicalism in the 1960s has been found. The recording, which also includes part of the controversial response from the Chair by John Stott, will be made publicly available by the MLJ Trust for the first time on October 13. Details are given below of how to access the recording free of charge.
At its heart, the issue was whether evangelicals should come out from denominations which had become doctrinally compromised. For the sake of Christ and the gospel, Lloyd-Jones said yes they must come out. But Stott used his position from the Chair to disagree. Iain Murray records Stott as saying, ‘history is against what Dr Lloyd-Jones has said’. However, the decades since that day – and the current state of the Church of England in particular – have surely vindicated Lloyd-Jones’s analysis.
